The Corona crisis has also affected the International Samba Festival in Coburg and cannot take place in July as planned. An international festival with more than 200,000 visitors from all over the world is unfortunately inconceivable in this situation.
The health of our guests, artists and employees is our top priority. We have to cancel our festival with a heavy heart in July and postpone planning until next year.Rolf Beyersdorf | Managing director SambaCo
For the organizer Sambaco, the hot phase of the planning would also involve considerable costs, which is why the cancellation of groups, stages, booked hotels and the infrastructure became inevitable. Beyersdorf extends his thanks to all partners, visitors, sponsors and guests who have been loyal to the festival for many years and stand by their side: “The cancellation hurts us a lot and was not easy for us, but now it is important to stand together in solidarity.”
First Pause since 1991
The International Samba Festival has been an integral part of the Coburg events calendar since the year it was founded in 1992. Last year around 200,000 visitors came to Coburg, always on the second weekend in July, to dance, celebrate and enjoy the Brazilian joy of life. For the coming year, the Sambaco team has made a firm commitment to continue the largest samba festival outside of Brazil in Coburg as usual. Many artists who were invited for this year already agreed to come to Coburg in July 2021.
Purchased tickets will remain valid
Tickets purchased in special advance sales remain valid for the coming year. Even if there should be price increases, the tickets are still valid for 2021.
In this context, the organizers appeal to fans who have already bought a ticket to refrain from returning it if this is possible for the individual. “For us, refund processing involves considerable effort and costs,” says Beyersdorf. However, if you do not want to use or pass on your ticket for 2021, you can give it back. Information on refund can be found here (Page available in German only).
